ECA BARCELONA 2017
The Event Cinema Association (ECA) hosted ECA Barcelona 2017 at the Hotel SB Diagonal Zero in Barcelona on Wednesday 21 June 2017.
Open to all members of the public, the one day event featured an exclusive showcase of upcoming member content, networking breaks as well as industry seminars which included for the first time, a focus on the China and Japan markets.

Sessions also featured Naoko Kumagai from Live Viewing Japan discussing the growth of event cinema in the Japan cinema market whilst Trafalgar Releasing and the Royal Opera House closed with a joint presentation on brands and connecting with audiences.

Seminar sessions featured a focus on the China and Japan market starting with David Hancock from IHS Markit presenting the latest facts and figures from his recent industry report, followed by a presentation from our newest ECA member CityLights Events, a new company financed by Bingo Cinemas, a multiplex operator in Shanghai, visiting Barcelona as they reach out to the Event Cinema industry to make contacts and acquire content for release in China. Founders of CityLights Events - Yan Yin and Ryan Hickey highlighted the opportunities and challenges of releasing content in China, debunking some of the myths surrounding this complex territory.
Barcelona was also an opportunity to celebrate an association milestone - the ECA's 5th birthday! Along with our good friends the European Digital Cinema Forum (EDCF), the ECA hosted a special drinks reception for members and guests.

We've hosted our 4th annual Conference and Awards, the only event of its kind, established plans for more localised industry events, produced industry guidebooks and reports and established a global network of 200 members from 41 countries worldwide, now including China, Mexico, India and the UAE.
